Insulation removal in El Monte CA - a clean attic ready for new insulation

Insulation that's soaked, moldy or matted down stays a problem under a fresh layer. We check it, pull what's ruined and leave the attic ready.

Does the old insulation in your attic need to come out?

Insulation removal in El Monte means taking the old insulation out of your attic so new insulation can go in, and at Expert El Monte Insulation Services we only pull it when it's damaged or in the way of doing the attic right.

Most people call because a room upstairs stays hot or the power bill won't come down, and when I get up there the old insulation is often flattened, stained or thin at the edges. The price turns mostly on your attic's size, since removal is priced by the square foot, and on how hard the space is to work in, and those same two things set how long we're up there. You get your own number from me after I've been in the attic and seen what's there.

How we handle insulation removal

I go up in the attic before I quote, because the whole job depends on what's lying up there. If the old insulation looks like gray-brown or gold pebbles, we don't touch it, and I'll point you to a separate asbestos abatement company. With anything else, we check for damage first so you're not paying to pull out insulation that could stay. When it does need to come out, we protect the path through your house, clear the attic down to the framing and keep the eave vents open, then we seal the gaps and put new insulation in, in that order.

Removal often turns up work outside the attic too. If the floors over the crawl space stay cold, crawl space insulation goes in under the house once any water problem down there is fixed, and older houses with empty walls can get wall insulation without tearing out the drywall. We're based in El Monte and do this work in the cities around it, so if you don't see yours listed, call and ask.

Why El Monte homeowners call Expert El Monte Insulation Services for removal

  • I look before I price it

I come out, go up in the attic and write the estimate myself, and I'm on the job with my crew when the old insulation comes out. The person who saw your attic is the one standing in it on removal day.

  • Six years in lived-in houses

We've been in business since 2020, and before that I spent years insulating new houses for builders, where the attics were empty. A full attic over rooms people live in is a different job, and it's the one we do.

  • Licensed and insured for attic work

We're licensed and insured, which matters when a crew is walking your ceiling joists and working right over your bedrooms. If something goes wrong up there, you shouldn't be the one carrying it.

  • Permits pulled when you need one

When a job needs a permit, we pull it and set up the inspections, and I'll tell you at the estimate whether yours does. If you'd rather ask the city yourself, El Monte Building and Safety takes questions at (626) 580-2050 and accepts applications in person with no appointment.

On a removal, doing things in the right order is what keeps you from paying twice. Call (626) 416-2112 or send us the form and I'll come out and take a look.

Get your attic checked before anything comes out

We get back to you within one business day, and the estimate is free, done at your house, with no obligation. I come out, go up in the attic, tell you straight what I find and write the price. It helps to have the attic's rough size ready and a description of the insulation from a look through the hatch, without digging into it.

What people ask about insulation removal

How can I tell if my attic insulation is vermiculite?

Vermiculite is a loose, pebble-like fill that's usually gray-brown or silver-gold, poured between the joists instead of laid in rolls. The EPA says to treat it as if it contains asbestos, so look from the hatch with a flashlight and don't dig into it or move it. If that's what you see, tell us when you call and I'll point you to an abatement company instead of sending a crew.

Who should remove vermiculite insulation in El Monte?

A trained, accredited asbestos abatement contractor should, and the EPA says it should be a separate company from whoever looked at your insulation, so the advice you get isn't tied to selling you the job. In California, asbestos work on 100 square feet or more needs a license with the C-22 Asbestos Abatement classification, or the person responsible for the license has to have passed the state's asbestos certification exam. You can also ask about their state asbestos contractor registration, which covers work on 100 square feet or more of material over 0.1% asbestos. Around here, South Coast AQMD says it's the local enforcement authority for asbestos, with its own rules on surveys, notice and work practices during renovation.

Can new insulation go over old insulation, or does it have to come out?

Old insulation can often stay if it's dry and clean, but one national cost guide says it should come out when moisture, mold, fire or pests have damaged it. Laying fresh material over damaged insulation keeps the problem in your attic, so that's the first thing I check.

How long does attic insulation removal take?

One national cost guide puts it anywhere from 4 hours to 2 days or more, depending on the attic's size and how complex the job is. A small, open attic sits at the short end, and a big one with low clearance or a lot of ductwork in the way takes longer.

What does attic insulation removal cost near El Monte?

Attic insulation removal in Los Angeles usually costs about $2,000 to $6,000 per job. That's the going rate across the area for taking the old insulation out, not our quote, and your attic's size and how tricky it is to work in decide where you land. Call (626) 416-2112 and I'll come look at yours.

Should I air seal my attic after the old insulation is removed?

Yes, because an empty attic is the best chance you'll get to close the gaps where indoor air leaks up into it. The usual ones are around can lights, pipes and the attic hatch, and new insulation laid over them just fights a draft.

  • Crawl space insulation

Cold floors over a crawl space usually mean the underside of the house needs insulation of its own.

  • Wall insulation

Rooms that stay hot or drafty under a good attic often have little or nothing inside the walls.
